Anna Caterina Dalmasso is Assistant Professor of Aesthetics at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Milan and a member of the ERC research project AN-ICON “An-Iconology: History, Theory, and Practices of Environmental Images”. She teaches “Media Theory and AI” within the Master’s programme “Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence”.

After completing her doctoral thesis on Merleau-Ponty’s philosophy of the visual and its implications for contemporary mediality and technoculture, she developed her research in the field of screen studies and digital visual culture. Her current focus is on the aesthetic experience of immersive virtual environments and the regime of algorithmic media, which she addresses by combining phenomenology with the approach of media archaeology.
