Hykel Hosni is professor of Logic and Philosophy of Science and head of the Logic Uncertainty Computation and Information LUCI Lab, at the University of Milan. For the past two decades he has been working on the logical foundations of reasoning and decision-making under uncertainty.

He put together the ReDa project in response to his numerous interdisciplinary interactions with colleagues in the (natural, social and life) sciences. He realised that scientists have a decidedely outdated picture of logic and logical methods, which they limit to the foundations of mathematics and the analysis of mathematical proof. But this is of little help in data-driven reasoning, as the scientists know well. The result is a widespread idea that logic is at best useful as a tool for “critical thinking”. There is so much more that logic can do, as he hopes to be able to point out in the five years of the ReDa project!
